All we need to know about the current state of American Politics is this:
Myanmar's "political icon" is Suu Kyi.
England's current "political icons" are Prince William and his fiance.
America's current "political icon" is Sara Palin.
These observations are all one needs to know regarding comparing the depth of thought, in politics, in these current society's.

I don't think the Prince and his fiance are political icons, necessarily. But they're definitely the flavor of the month right now...and probably will be for several years.
